Half-Life: Alyx has already debuted and thanks to the media, players had the opportunity to see how this virtual reality adventure ends. There they found reasons to think that Half-Life 3 is confirmed and that we will see the long-awaited game coming soon.

Now, before continuing, it is important to know that, from here, this article contains spoilers for Half-Life: Alyx and its story. Below we will tell you the end of the game and we will talk about what happens in it. So, if you want to play the Valve title without spoiling yourself, we recommend that you stop reading from here and come back at another time.

As previously confirmed, Half-Life: Alyx is a game that serves as a prequel to Half-Life 2 and connects the facts of the first game with its sequel. For this reason, the players saw it as a story and all the little things that were going to add and that was only going to solve some questions.

For this situation, many were surprised to learn that the end of Half-Life: Alyx connects with that of Half-Life 2: Episode 2. Not only that, but it also hints that the Half-Life story is going to continue.

But what is going on? In short (via The Wertzone) in the Half-Life: Alyx story we follow Alyx, who in his fight against the Combine concludes that Gordon Freeman is trapped in a prison who is in a “temporary stalemate”. Upon arriving at the prison he discovers that Gordon is not really there and only meets G-Man who thanks him for intervening and offers him a reward.

Originally, Alyx asks that the Combine invasion never happen, but that is not possible. Instead, G-Man offers to save his father, Eli, from the death we saw in Half-Life 2: Episode 2. The above comes at a price, as Alyx ends up taking Gordon Freeman’s place in the G-Man operational forces.

Once that happens, a light screen appears and we are taken to the credits. When they finish a new scene appears in which the players take control of Gordon Freeman at the end of Episode Two. The character is in front of Eli, who wants to kill G-Man and save Alyx. This is why he stands in front of Freeman, gives him his classic lever and tells him there are things to do.

As you can see, the ending of Half-Life: Alyx changes facts from the story we knew. However, it does so with some ideas Valve writers had for Half-Life 3, plus it opens the door for the story to follow.

Now, it is important to note that, at the moment, Valve has not revealed that it is working on Half-Life 3 (but it has shown the intention to do so). So, although what we see at the end of Alyx is promising, the reality is that we recommend restraining yourself before getting excited until Valve makes it official.
