Koei Tecmo Files a New Trademark for Ninja Gaiden

Ninja Gaiden

After the Ninja Gaiden series had become quiet in recent years, it was now again showing a sign of life.

Although the people in charge of the Ninja Gaiden series have repeatedly assured in the past that they are interested in a return of the series, it remained silent for a long time. Recently, however, the brand gave another sign of life, because according to a report, Koei Tecmo has submitted a new trademark for the Ninja Gaiden game.

More precisely, the Japanese company is said to have registered the said trademark with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) at the beginning of December. It emerges from this that it is a matter of “consumer video game programs” that are to appear on various data carriers – CD-ROMs, DVD-ROMs and others. Further details are not available from the registration, which is why it is not possible to say with certainty what kind of Ninja Gaiden game this is exactly.

After reports about the publication of a game collection called Ninja Gaiden Trilogy were circulating in September of this year , the recently registered trademark could be connected with this. The trilogy should include Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 and Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge and will supposedly be released in March 2021 for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.

On the other hand, members of the Ninja Gaiden team have repeatedly expressed themselves in the last few months and years about a return of the brand. For example, Fumihiko Yasuda, the director of Team Ninja, told IGN in February 2020 that the core members of the team that worked on Ninja Gaiden want to make a new game.

However, before a Ninja Gaiden 4, Koei Tecmo could first try to find out whether the players are still interested in the series. The previously mentioned trilogy would be ideal for this. Either way, we could expect news about Ninja Gaiden in the coming weeks.
