According to Bloomberg, Nintendo Co. is set to launch a new Switch game console this year featuring an 8-inch LCD screen. This information comes from Omdia analyst Hiroshi Hayase, who bases his forecasts on checks with companies in the supply chain. The new device is expected to lead to a doubling in shipments of so-called amusement displays in 2024.
The upcoming console, referred to as the “Switch 2” in some reports, will reportedly feature the largest screen size ever for a Nintendo console, but it will be LCD rather than OLED. This decision is likely aimed at keeping costs down. For comparison, the current Switch OLED model has a 7-inch screen, while the original Switch has a 6.2-inch screen.
Nintendo has been relatively tight-lipped about their next-generation console, but the expectations are converging on a release during this year’s holiday period. It’s important to note that while these reports are based on insights from industry analysts, Nintendo has not officially confirmed any details about the new console.
