NetherRealm Studios is Working On Other Projects Besides Injustice & Mortal Kombat

Injustice

NetherRealm Studios is mostly known for the installments of Mortal Kombat, but within its portfolio of famous IPs there is also Injustice. The studio has been fully dedicated to these sagas and many wonder if it will soon launch a project outside these franchises.

During a recent interview with Geoff Keighley, Ed Boon, Creative Director at NetherRealm, discussed the future of Mortal Kombat, its popularity, and what awaits the studio in the years to come. Keighley claimed to be admired for the work NetherRealm has done with his various series, most notably with Mortal Kombat. Also, the producer of The Game Awards noted that Boon was still clearly having fun doing the franchise.

Boon replied that Mortal Kombat has become a basic thing for him and the studio. He assured that the saga is partly like the Marvel movies, as its iterations will continue to arrive. The interesting thing is that Boon said that they have had the opportunity to work on other projects, such as Injustice, and hinted that there are other things on the way now. “We have other stuff in the oven, but it’s always nice to do the Mortal Kombat games,” Boon said.

The creative was surprised by the support that players have given Mortal Kombat for years because he did not think that the popularity of the saga would be in force for so long.

“If you would have told me that this would be our, so far fastest-selling Mortal Kombat video games of all of them, 20 something years later, I wouldn’t have believed it. The fact that they’re doing as well as they ever have is great,” concluded the creative. For now, the studio’s upcoming projects are a mystery. Of course, a new installment of Injustice is not ruled out, but there is also the possibility that NetherRealm will surprise us with something new.

Mortal Kombat 11 is now available on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC.
