Konami has unveiled Silent Hill f, the newest entry in the legendary Silent Hill franchise, featuring a full trailer. This new title represents the franchise’s return to its roots in original storytelling since 2012’s Silent Hill: Downpour. It brings a new setting, protagonist, and a haunting Japanese-inspired horror theme.
The trailer introduces Shimizu Hinako, a teenage girl who resides in the rural town of Ebisugaoka in 1960s Japan. Her mundane existence turns dark when an ominous fog descends on the town and turns it into a hellish otherworld filled with grotesque creatures and breathtakingly beautiful landscapes.
The film-like imagery puts Hinako through this twisted reality, fixing problems, and encountering disturbing beings, all over the backdrop of a theme Konami terms as “finding the beauty in terror.” Blood roses, rotting yet beautiful streets, and an ever-present sense of foreboding suggest the psychological horror fans are accustomed to but now coupled with a clearly Japanese horror theme wherein perfection morphs into the eerie.
Created by Taiwan game studio NeoBards Entertainment, Silent Hill f has an impressive creative team behind it. The script is written by Ryūkishi07, who is well known for the When They Cry series, and creature and character design work is being done by Kera, with the promise of a fresh yet true continuation of the Silent Hill world.
Although the trailer is mostly focused on cinematic storytelling without overt gameplay, it provides a rich glimpse of the game’s atmosphere and tone. Released as a standalone game with subtle references to long-time fans, this is the first mainline Silent Hill title to leave the series’ classic foggy American setting behind for a Japanese one.
Silent Hill f is due out for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC through Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Windows Store. No specific launch date has been announced, but wishlists are now open across all platforms, signaling Konami’s confidence in the project’s growing hype. The reveal builds on the momentum of 2024’s critically acclaimed Silent Hill 2 remake by Bloober Team and follows an initial tease of Silent Hill f back in October 2022.
Fans have already begun to parse the trailer’s creepy imagery and guess at its narrative connections to the larger Silent Hill universe. With its aggressive new direction and creepy potential, Silent Hill f looks ready to bring new fear to the legendary franchise.
