During yesterday evening, really interesting and unpredictable news has come forward. The famous company Epic Games, owner of the Epic Games Store PC platform, as well as author of one of the most successful games in video game history, Fortnite, has recently announced that it has acquired the software house Mediatonic.
For those unfamiliar with the latter, just think that one of the most recent and most successful games is a product made by the house in question. We’re talking about Fall Guys, a hilarious and irreverent online multiplayer game that combines the classic mechanics of Battle Royale (only one will remain alive) to the funniest mini-games possible and unimaginable.
To give the news through official channels was the same software house that bought the studio, which immediately wanted to specify that the game will not suffer unwelcome drifts due to possible licenses on other platforms, but this move will give even more depth to an almost perfect game, providing more capabilities to the Mediatonic software house through new financial and physical resources.
Among these, we already know of the additions to the functions such as the account system, team versus team modes, cross-play, and many others that will come later. Such a title certainly gives an even more important depth to the Epic Games Store catalog, adding to strategically similar products such as Fortnite, Rocket League, and others.
Furthermore, it seems that not only Mediatonic has been acquired, but also Tonic Games, a company close to Mediatonic. Months ago, Epic Games had announced that next year the company would make large acquisitions, and apparently, this is only the first of a series of strategic moves that began with the takeover of Psyonix, the development house of Rocket League. Who knows what other moves the company has in store?
