Returning after all these years of silence, Midgar Studio presents a fresh new adventure. Edge of Memories, the sequel to Edge of Eternity, will release in Q4 2025 on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Contrary to its predecessor that adopted traditional JRPG turn-based combat, the new game makes a switch into a real-time action RPG with its Japanese art style and animation intact.
A New World, A New Protagonist
Plotted on the continent of Avaris, Edge of Memories introduces Soul Whisperer Eline who’s battling a corrupting curse called Corrosion—a energy that distorts and alters everything it touches. When a strange occurrence instills in her the power to manipulate the same corruption she’s fighting, she must set out on a quest that can save or destroy her world.
She won’t be alone in this battle. With her is:
- Ysoris, her guide and mentor
- Kanta, shaman prince of a forgotten tribe
As a team, they need to learn to fight, discover ancient lore, and determine the destiny of Avaris.
Fast-Paced Fighting & Berserker Mode
Edge of Memories is built around a combo-based combat system that asks players to combine swift attacks with crushing moves. Proper use of companions’ powers will be the key to victory in combat.
Eline also possesses a special talent—she can tap into her berserker within, delivering strong hits and brutal kills that can swing the course of war.
A Living World That Unfolds with the Story
Avaris is a vibrant and varied continent, boasting:
- Sandy beaches of Sarlah-Durah, a lively seaport city
- Snowy summits of the Kezal Mountains
Exploring these areas is facilitated by a Nekaroo, a mountable feline friend that assists Eline in traversing areas previously inaccessible. Midgar Studio guarantees an ever-changing world where previously visited areas shift with time, opening new routes and changing landscapes as the narrative progresses.
Moreover, the developers highlight no filler quests—each quest adds to the world, characters, or relationships, guaranteeing a purposeful experience.
A Soundtrack Crafted by Legends
Musical enthusiasts have reason to rejoice because the game is being scored by Cédric Menendez and has contributions from:
- Emi Evans (NieR: Automata) for the concluding theme
- Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger, Xenoblade Chronicles, Sea of Stars) lending his timeless touch
With Unreal Engine 5 behind the game and Nacon publishing it, Edge of Memories is turning out to be a cinematic and emotionally charged RPG experience. Watch for more information as we head into its Q4 2025 launch.
