Xbox One S, the first revision of Xbox One, is slightly more powerful than its older brother and has features (like HDR support) that the first model lacks. It is thanks to this that the Nightdive Studios team managed to have what could be the first game for Xbox One S that runs at a resolution greater than 1080p.
We are talking about DOOM 64, a classic title for Nintendo 64 that was recently relaunched on PC and current generation platforms. According to Digital Foundry, it is a game that runs at 60 fps and 1080p on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, while on Xbox One S it runs at 60 fps and 1440p.
According to Nightdive Studios, this they did since when running DOOM 64 on Xbox One S they realized that they were only using 20% of the power of the GPU of the console. Considering that it is a hardware equipped with a video output HDMI 2.0 and having a 4K mode for movies and series, the developers decided to deliver a bit more. With the above, the version for Xbox One S runs at a higher resolution than that of other consoles.
It is worth mentioning that if you activate the 1080p video output mode you will have a supersampling effect. This caused some problems in the Xbox One version of DOOM 64, so Nightdive Studio decided to only enable it on the Xbox One S version.
It is worth mentioning that this is not the only feature that makes DOOM 64 special for Xbox One. What happened is that this version also has keyboard and mouse support, so users of this console can enjoy a bit of the experience of PC.
